Baroness’ Birthday and on St. Nicholas day Feast and Revel

Come join us in the celebration of our saintly Baroness Rowena’s natal day on Saturday December 3rd at St. Michael’s Parish Hall in Riverside. This illustrious occasion in this most glorious season will be honored lavish dining in gleaming candlelight. In the true House Montrose tradition, there will be sumptuous soups and salads, mouth-watering breads served with honey butter, roast meats, a great flaming subtletie, fruits, flaming deserts, cider, wine, and viands of all kinds, embellished with musical interludes and sundry table games. People making presentations to the Baroness, please see the Herald before sitting down to table.

Set up begins at 4:00 p.m.; First Remove at 4:30 p.m. For those of you who have not partaken of our feast before, a friendly word of advice: Seriously consider fasting for a day or so before the banquet!

Contests

  • Best Period Table Setting - Three persons or less – Four persons or more.
  • Best Banner - (Bring your banner and its standard; we will provide portable holes)
  • Table Games (to be announced at the feast)

Revel

Preserving an ancient, hallowed tradition in Dreiburgen, Farther Christmas will again appear to bestow gifts at the commencement of the revel (those participating should bring a gift marked for their own sex --- $6.00 limit). Following gift exchanges, there will be dancing (directed by directed by Dreiburgen’s Master of Dance, Aladric of Litchfield) and also a bardic circle.

Servers

Any one who would like to serve, please call the autocrat. All servers dine at half-price & House Montrose guarantees its loyal help a full round of viands. (remember the advice fasting… you have been warned!)

Memories

  • memories from individual people, can also be formal event reports.

From Baron Malcolm:

After the success of Yule 86 our reputation of feeding the populace until they nearly burst and roll them out the doors preceded us, however there was one group that didn’t understand the fasting warning. In a effort to win the table setting contest they had their table groaning with appetizers. They did not seem to understand that they were the source of a lot or jokes that evening. Maybe they did by the time I served the wafer thin after dinner mints at the end of the meal.(it is a sad statement that some people feel they need to bring food to a banquet)
What I remember most was the peoples reaction when Aladric and I carried in the flaming subtletie high over our heads, a cake in the shape of a dragon with armored knights in its jaws and live flames emitting from mouth. I think it was the girls running in screaming for help before us that really made the presentation.
