Challenges and Championships: A Hastlitude in Summer.

The Fair Shire of the Isles is proud to host Caid Rapier Open this summer.

The theme of the event is games of chivalry, called “Hastlitudes” popular in the late 14th and 15th centuries.

The Championship will consist of four speed tourneys to produce semi-finalists, each of which will be in a separate style. Fighters may enter any or all of the speed lists, and winning one does not preclude you from the others, so be well-rounded for more chances at the finals. The four styles will be Cut and Thrust (Single or with Buckler), Cloak or Baton, Dagger or Buckler, and Case of Swords.

The afternoon will feature a Pas d’Armes for unscarved fencers, and all comers are invited to show off their heraldic prowess (after all those hours spent checking conflicts, your Arms must serve some purpose!) and fanciest garb. (It was also not unheard of for fighters to arrive in disguise, or with herds of heralds and minstrels.) Over four rounds of the pas, each contestant will twice face a challenge of their choosing, to demonstrate their skill and prowess and entertain Their Majesties, the Order of the White Scarf, and the assembled populace. The attending members of the Order of the White Scarf will be asked to award prizes for valor, skill, and chivalry upon the field. Non-fighters are encouraged to bring tokens for anything they wish to encourage on the field, to bestow as they see fit.

The evening activities will include a light feast, accompanied by dancing and a bardic circle.

Their Majesties will be present at this event.

Site Fee:

$7 for members, including the light feast, + $3 surcharge for non-members. Children under 15 are $4 and those under 5 are guests of the shire. Make checks payable to SCA Inc./Shire of Isles.
