Our beloved "Auntie Emma", THL Emma Rose Cuffe of Summerland, slipped into a coma early morning on June 9, 2005. At approximately 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon her battle with lymphoma came to an end. In her sleep, and without any pain, this wonderful Lady released her bonds to the mortal world and departed to the Summerland.
It was with profound sadness that I made this posting. And it grieves me greatly to this day that I am no longer be able put my arms around her and receive one of her wonderful hugs. However I still take comfort in knowing that I see the twinkle of her eye every night in the stars at night, feel the warmth of her smile in the bright suns light, and hear the music of her voice on the moonbeams as they dance upon the waters.
I love you Emma, and miss you still.
Vivienne, sister of the heart.
Emma was always vibrant, laughing, and talking. Anyone who rode in a car knows very well of what I speak. In a car, Emma would have us laughing and talking SO much that inevitably the off ramp or turn would be missed. It was simply a fact of life. To this day, whenever my husband and I, or others who knew Emma, are driving somewhere and we miss a turn or ramp, we all say without thinking "It's the Emma Curse". And it really is!
From Catherine de Winter
Auntie Em always made newcomers welcome. She was adept at street theater, and delighted in taking her "marriageable nieces" on progress at events to introduce them to the SCA. Many photos over the years show Emma's sturdy loaner T-tunics worn by men and women of all ages and all sizes. She was invariably accompanied by her trusty cane and defensive weapon named "Shin Bane", the bane of shins everywhere.
