I am considering making a change to site policy regarding Awards. Currently the policy reads:
I use this section to work on wording for new articles as needed. Anything herein should be considered "unofficial", at best.
*We are NOT recreating the [[Order of Precedence]], feel free to list preferred title and major points, but awards listing are best left to the OP.

Whenever possible, [[:Category:Populace|populace]] articles should use the person's name as it is registered with the College of Arms of the Society. Unfortunately, many registered names use accented characters and a few non-Latin characters. When a name contains these characters, its article may be alphabetized by the Wiki some distance from where users will likely look for it. This is particularly true if the special character is the first or second character in the name. For example, the name "Þorfastr Varinsson" will be placed after names which start with "Z" and "Róis ni Brian" will be placed after "Ryuusaki Raiden".

===Sort Key===
A sort key specifies where the page will appear in the category list, and under which letter heading. (By default, the page is sorted under the first letter of its full name including its namespace.) You can add a sort key to a page by adding it inside the Category tag. For example, adding the tag "<nowiki>[[Category:Populace|Thorfastr Varinsson]]</nowiki>" to the article "Þorfastr Varinsson" would place the article in the Populace category with the "T" names, as expected by users. The altered sort key is not visible to users, however. Only the registered spelling will appear in the category listing, article heading, etc.

I do not know the genesis of this rule, but I know Kolfinna regularly enforced the rule by removing awards lists as they were added. I suspect the rule was created at a time when all the editing was done by a few editors, and she wished to avoid having to maintain awards lists -- a task which would be monumental, never-ending, and redundant.
Hmm. Did not work - may need extension.

The site has since been opened up to a wider editing membership, and most populace pages are written by the person they are about or a friend. Naturally, everyone is very proud of the awards they have received. The tendency is to include a list of ''all'' awards the person has received, rather than just "major points".

At a minimum, I believe the policy should be clarified, to give the populace a reason ''why'' we have the rule and make it clearer what they may or may not do. I am thinking of changing the first part of the rule text to:
== Help with Scribal pages ==
*We are ''not'' recreating the [[Order of Precedence]]. We make no guarantee that awards described on populace pages are correct or up to date. For complete awards lists for any Caidan, please visit the [http://heralds.sca-caid.org/op/index.html Caid Order of Precedence].
Hey Lachlan!  I need a little help. I think I want to do a Scribe page for out of Kingdom scribes (we're getting a lot of help from outside Caid) and up until now, I've just been making a new scribe page for each one.  I'm not quite sure how to format it.  (I've forgotten what little I know about this stuff. :)  I'd appreciate your help. Thanks!  aliskye (and I forgot how to do the little sig thing.)

Which leaves the second part. If we are to maintain the status quo, I suggest clarifying it thusly:
Thanks Lachlan!  You fill me with confidence!  When I get the rest of the coronation scrolls uploaded I'll work on the new page. (It's been really slow and awful editing the wiki lately, or is that just my computer which sorely needs to be replaced.) Look signature:  --[[User:Aliskye|Aliskye]] 16:29, 9 July 2013 (PDT)
*Full awards lists are not appropriate here, though feel free to list preferred title and major points (either highest precedence award or award that means the most to the recipient).

My questions:

#Should we continue to discourage awards lists on the populace pages? Please explain why you think "yes" or "no".

#If discouraged, should awards lists be removed when discovered?
#Do you believe the first revision above is clear and helpful? Do you have suggestions on how to make it better?
#Do you believe the second revision above is clear and helpful? (assuming that awards lists continue to be a discouraged practice here) Do you have suggestions on how to make it better?

==Scribe Page Question==
Editors - If you no longer wish to be an active editor, please contact me via email at [mailto:wiki@caid-commons.org wiki@caid-commons.org] to let me know. The only difference would be that you would no longer be listed on the Editor staff, and would no longer be expected to assume the responsibilities of an editor. You would still be able to edit pages on the Wiki. Thank you for all you have contributed to the Caid Wiki! --[[User:Valdis isbrandsdottir|Valdis]] 12:12, 23 November 2013 (PST)

Hey Lachlan!  I want to make a new page that will list all the scrolls by recipent (just a list without the thumbnails) and also link the same information on the page of each recipient.  So there will be one master list one could go to to see if a scroll had been done.  And one could also see the scrolls done for a person on their own page.  Can you tell me how to make a new page for the master list and what would be good formating for it?  Thanks!  [[User:Aliskye|Aliskye]] 13:43, 3 November 2009 (PST)

To make a new page, put the title you plan to use ("Scrolls by Recipient"?) into the search box and hit "Search". You'll get a page telling you no page was found with that title, and a link to create a the page. Click the link to get a standard edit box and start filling...
Lachlan, can you delete the page for [[Vashey Bat Abraham]]?  I added him when he did a scroll for us, but I've since started to move all the "foreign" scribes to a single page. We don't need Vashey's page any more. Thanks!  [[User:Aliskye|Aliskye]] 16:04, 23 July 2014 (PDT)

Lachlan, I would be honored. I like helping, so that would not be a problem. You could put me down for areas like General, Barony of the Angels, Early Caid. Not claiming to be the ultimate expert on any of the three, you understand. :)
"Mountain" refers to the mountains of Dreiburgen, and "SCAdians" of course refers to the SCA. I also have "The elven warbow some call ''pagrimuslovus'' is a type of composite longbow made of heartwood, sapwood, and horn, with a string of plant and animal fiber." Caidan [[Paganus Grimlove]] helped me develop that bow and the elven seabow. Caidan [[Rekon of Saaremaa]] was the one who came up with a natural material that would work for the elven seabow.

Note that when I started with ''GURPS'' as a gamemaster (I had never played the game before, although I was first told about it by a Caidan), every one of my players was a Caidan active in the SCA, [[Eldwin Nightowl|as was I]]. Now, I'm only active online as I currently live in the middle of nowhere, three days travel by horse from the nearest SCA group. I'm admin of the unfortunately not very active right now [http://sca.fandom.com SCA Wiki]).

Test Area

I use this section to work on wording for new articles as needed. Anything herein should be considered "unofficial", at best.

Whenever possible, populace articles should use the person's name as it is registered with the College of Arms of the Society.

GURPS Fantasy Folk: Elves

I don't want to add something to this wiki without knowing if it's OK, so wanted to check first.

The SCA, and people of Dreiburgen in particular, are referenced/hinted at in the new role-playing supplement GURPS Fantasy Folk: Elves. which I wrote under my modern name. (Note that the creator of GURPS, Steve Jackson, is an SCA baron, and several GURPS writers and artists have been involved in the SCA).

In part I thank "...the Ek-sen-trik Mountain SCAdians...." The Ek-sen-triks Cluborguild was a college club which more or less became House Grimlove which largely began the Dreiburgen Canton of Gallavally.

"Mountain" refers to the mountains of Dreiburgen, and "SCAdians" of course refers to the SCA. I also have "The elven warbow some call pagrimuslovus is a type of composite longbow made of heartwood, sapwood, and horn, with a string of plant and animal fiber." Caidan Paganus Grimlove helped me develop that bow and the elven seabow. Caidan Rekon of Saaremaa was the one who came up with a natural material that would work for the elven seabow.
