==Update to Fix Page==
Whenever possible, [[:Category:Populace|populace]] articles should use the person's name as it is registered with the College of Arms of the Society. Unfortunately, many registered names use accented characters and a few non-Latin characters. When a name contains these characters, its article may be alphabetized by the Wiki some distance from where users will likely look for it. This is particularly true if the special character is the first or second character in the name. For example, the name "Þorfastr Varinsson" will be placed after names which start with "Z" and "Róis ni Brian" will be placed after "Ryuusaki Raiden".

===Sort Key===
A sort key specifies where the page will appear in the category list, and under which letter heading. (By default, the page is sorted under the first letter of its full name including its namespace.) You can add a sort key to a page by adding it inside the Category tag. For example, adding the tag "<nowiki>[[Category:Populace|Thorfastr Varinsson]]</nowiki>" to the article "Þorfastr Varinsson" would place the article in the Populace category with the "T" names, as expected by users. The altered sort key is not visible to users, however. Only the registered spelling will appear in the category listing, article heading, etc.

I really like the artwork you did for the Kingdom arms on the opening page - did you draw and scan, or use some program?  Is it vector or pixel based?  --[[User:EowynA|EowynA]] 10:17, 24 June 2008 (PDT)

Thanks for the info.  I'm playing with a combo of Photoshop and Illustrator to transform the photographed versions of my hand-drawn art to vector based pix with color. Did you draw it directly in Illustrator?--[[User:EowynA|EowynA]] 11:08, 25 June 2008 (PDT)

==Update to Populace pages==
Hmm. Did not work - may need extension.
*Moved all the fix it notes to here [[Help:Fix#Populace_Pages]].
*The most important addition is the [[Help:Populace_Names]] which is a direct feed from the OP, so should have the proper spelling for the majority of Caidans. Thanks! --[[User:Kottr|Kolfinna]] 11:10, 25 June 2008 (PDT)
**I like the new system using names from OP. It's simple enough to use to ignore the chances of error. Of course, I'm a stinker, and went through it 'til I found a misspelling. Yes, I notified them.--[[User:Lachlan|Lachlan]] 15:54, 25 June 2008 (PDT)
**Question - Caid should have the original file for Bevin Fraser of Sterling / Stirling.  Since the former spelling usually accompanies Silver (and is apparently what is registered), and the latter spelling is a place in Scotland (which is more logical and apparently what she wanted), could you confirm that the original paperwork has the Silver spelling instead of the place-in-Scotland spelling? The OP and the O&A might be wrong. --[[User:EowynA|EowynA]] 16:07, 25 June 2008 (PDT)
#The (current) armorial has the spelling "Bevin Fraser Sterling". The original armorial is out in the garage. I could check later...
#A sheet in her file labeled "HISTORICAL INFORMATION FOR THE GREAT BOOK OF ARMS" uses the spelling "Fraser of Sterling" for "surname or place name, if any." I've got no idea if she filled this form out, or some herald did.
#An armory form in the file has the name "Bevin Fraser of Stirling", though I strongly suspect it post-dates the registration of her device. No indication either way.
#The notification letter from Karina (dtd. 13 March 1974), indicating that her device "has been found suitable" is addressed to "Bevin Fraser of Stirling". (side note: At the bottom is a note "KFW/at". Any idea who "at" was?)

So based on this letter, which is really the only sheet I can place in time, I would say that the Armorial may be in error. The OP, though is correct, in that it agrees with the Armorial.--[[User:Lachlan|Lachlan]] 23:13, 25 June 2008 (PDT)

It sounds to me like the Armorial was wrong (and likely has been wrong for 30 years or more). Remember that in Karina's day, one did not note the registration of the name as a separate actionThe registration of the device was de facto the registration of the name that accompanied it. Bevin now lives in Atlantia, but the original registration was here, and the bulk of her SCA work (I believe) is part of Caid's history. Is it possible to add that correction to the next LoI as a correction to an error made by the typist of the O&A? I have an O&A from Renfield's tenure as Clarion (O&A producer) floating around here somewhere. If I run across it, I'll see if it was correct in the typewritten version, or if the error goes back even then. Sorry, don't know who "at" might be. --[[User:EowynA|EowynA]] 00:51, 26 June 2008 (PDT)
== Help with Scribal pages ==
Hey Lachlan!  I need a little help. I think I want to do a Scribe page for out of Kingdom scribes (we're getting a lot of help from outside Caid) and up until now, I've just been making a new scribe page for each one.  I'm not quite sure how to format it.  (I've forgotten what little I know about this stuff. :)  I'd appreciate your help.  Thanks!  aliskye (and I forgot how to do the little sig thing.)

Thanks Lachlan!  You fill me with confidence!  When I get the rest of the coronation scrolls uploaded I'll work on the new page.  (It's been really slow and awful editing the wiki lately, or is that just my computer which sorely needs to be replaced.) The SCA, and people of [[Dreiburgen]] in particular, are referenced/hinted at in the new role-playing supplement ''GURPS Fantasy Folk: Elves.'' which I wrote under my modern name. (Note that the creator of ''GURPS'', Steve Jackson, is an SCA baron, and several ''GURPS'' writers and artists have been involved in the SCA).

In part I thank "...the Ek-sen-trik Mountain SCAdians...." The Ek-sen-triks Cluborguild was a college club which more or less became House Grimlove which largely began the Dreiburgen Canton of [[Gallavally]].

"Mountain" refers to the mountains of Dreiburgen, and "SCAdians" of course refers to the SCA. I also have "The elven warbow some call ''pagrimuslovus'' is a type of composite longbow made of heartwood, sapwood, and horn, with a string of plant and animal fiber." Caidan [[Paganus Grimlove]] helped me develop that bow and the elven seabow. Caidan [[Rekon of Saaremaa]] was the one who came up with a natural material that would work for the elven seabow.

Note that when I started with ''GURPS'' as a gamemaster (I had never played the game before, although I was first told about it by a Caidan), every one of my players was a Caidan active in the SCA, [[Eldwin Nightowl|as was I]]. Now, I'm only active online as I currently live in the middle of nowhere, three days travel by horse from the nearest SCA group. I'm admin of the unfortunately not very active right now [http://sca.fandom.com SCA Wiki]).

Lachlan, can you delete the page for Vashey Bat Abraham? I added him when he did a scroll for us, but I've since started to move all the "foreign" scribes to a single page. We don't need Vashey's page any more. Thanks! Aliskye 16:04, 23 July 2014 (PDT)

GURPS Fantasy Folk: Elves

I don't want to add something to this wiki without knowing if it's OK, so wanted to check first.

The SCA, and people of Dreiburgen in particular, are referenced/hinted at in the new role-playing supplement GURPS Fantasy Folk: Elves. which I wrote under my modern name. (Note that the creator of GURPS, Steve Jackson, is an SCA baron, and several GURPS writers and artists have been involved in the SCA).

In part I thank "...the Ek-sen-trik Mountain SCAdians...." The Ek-sen-triks Cluborguild was a college club which more or less became House Grimlove which largely began the Dreiburgen Canton of Gallavally.

"Mountain" refers to the mountains of Dreiburgen, and "SCAdians" of course refers to the SCA. I also have "The elven warbow some call pagrimuslovus is a type of composite longbow made of heartwood, sapwood, and horn, with a string of plant and animal fiber." Caidan Paganus Grimlove helped me develop that bow and the elven seabow. Caidan Rekon of Saaremaa was the one who came up with a natural material that would work for the elven seabow.

Note that when I started with GURPS as a gamemaster (I had never played the game before, although I was first told about it by a Caidan), every one of my players was a Caidan active in the SCA, as was I. Now, I'm only active online as I currently live in the middle of nowhere, three days travel by horse from the nearest SCA group. I'm admin of the unfortunately not very active right now SCA Wiki).
