Update to Fix Page

Help:Fix is where I am storing all the things to do and what needs to be focused on. We all have our own pet projects, but if you could also keep an eye on this page, that would be helpful.

West Photos

Lachlan, I didn't know if you had worked anything out with the WK site about photos and devices so for Michael Saint Sever I just linked to their photos. Can you let me know if you have? --Kolfinna 08:38, 19 February 2009 (PST)

  • I had not previously known of these sites. I will contact them.--Lachlan 10:10, 19 February 2009 (PST)

Categories

I noticed you added war bands into the Calafia Category. I noticed that Malcolm added Populace pages into the Dreiburgen Category. What do you think... Anything to do with the Barony goes into it's Category?

  • Yeah. I was a little surprised when Malcolm added the various populace pages for the baronage of Dreiburgen to the category. But I couldn't think of a reason why those pages aughtn't be added. I guess they are important to the history of Dreiburgen... And, when I did Calafia's category, I again thought, I aught to include sub-groups of the barony, even if they are unofficial groups (guilds, warbands...?)
I guess I feel ambivalent. "This category is for articles closely related to the group" and "This category is for any articles even vaguely related to the group" are both valid points of view. It's easier to be inclusive, though, rather than try and define what does or does not go in a category.--Lachlan 16:05, 27 March 2009 (PDT)
    • We'll see how it goes :) --Kolfinna 16:45, 27 March 2009 (PDT)

Also while on the topic of categories, I had awhile back thought about categorizing images... I started Category:Armorial (and all it's sub armorials)... but I never liked how it turned out, so I stopped populating it. I'm thinking at this point, it might be better to include such things into broader groups (like Category:Al-Sahid instead of Category:Al-Sahid Armorial). Thought, ideas? --Kolfinna 15:35, 27 March 2009 (PDT)

  • They might not be pretty, but I did kind of like the "all this group's armory in one table" function (You'll notice I even added some to Caid's armorial category). But I definitely agree that such a table might be best in an article within the group's category, rather than in a separate category. Is it possible to build the table automatically, populated with all image articles with "[[Category:Group]]"?--Lachlan 16:05, 27 March 2009 (PDT)
    • Nothing comes automatically in the wiki :) As a test I created Category:Al-Sahid, and put Category:Al-Sahid Armorial as a sub category to it. It doesn't display the picture in the main category but folks can click onto it. Or you can look at the Category:Dun Or and see how it looks mixed in with the other information. What do you think? --Kolfinna 16:45, 27 March 2009 (PDT)
      • I like the Dun Or approach.--Lachlan 16:54, 27 March 2009 (PDT)
        • All the old pages have been formatted. We'll still need to get the ones we haven't created yet, but now there aren't two different ways of doing it. --Kolfinna 18:12, 27 March 2009 (PDT)

New Art

I now have a decent photoshop template for the Former Barons badge. Do you mind if I use your original source artwork for the primary charges? Image:Ftb-Starkhafn-kk.png as an example. --Kolfinna 14:17, 30 March 2009 (PDT)

  • Yeah. Feel free. I'm sure they'll turn out looking better.--Lachlan 15:24, 30 March 2009 (PDT)
  • So I finished them all, and I'm pretty happy with them except for the one for Angels. Image:Ftb-Angels-kk.png. Any constructive ideas on how to make it look right? Good places for source art? --Kolfinna 17:53, 30 March 2009 (PDT)
    • The Angels one is one of the best of the set, in my opinion. You needn't sweat it.--Lachlan 10:38, 31 March 2009 (PDT)

Canting arms question

I answered your question on my User Talk page located at http://wiki.caid-commons.org/index.php/User_talk:James_the_Inconstant. Thank you for your interest. :) --James the Inconstant 22:53, 11 April 2009 (PDT)

Images

Is it possible for someone to delete the images in the scroll category that are messed up? I tried re-loading one and that didn't work. Aliskye 14:44, 15 April 2009 (PDT)

  • Thanks for deleting, but I uploaded a new copy of the image (same name) and it didn't work. Can the corrupted thumbnails be removed? I know this is a bigger issue, but I'm hoping it can be resolved. (I learned how to do a sig and date!! :) Aliskye 16:12, 15 April 2009 (PDT)

More on images

Can someone tell me how to upload a photo when it's on a website? Thanks! Aliskye 17:27, 17 April 2009 (PDT)

  • There may be an easier way but you can always download it to your hard drive and then upload it to the Wiki. That also gives you the opportunity to crop or otherwise alter the image for the best presentation before you upload it. Be sure to add proper credit for the photographer/artist/etc. to the comments section when you upload.--James the Inconstant 19:21, 17 April 2009 (PDT)

Lyondemere Stuff

Thomas wants to shut down the Lyondemere Wiki (as redundant now) and I'm trying to figure out where to put stuff. Where do we put info about officers and practices (for example archery practice and former archery captains?) Thanks! Aliskye 14:16, 27 April 2009 (PDT)
